Kalsubai (Highest point of maharashtra)

I wanted to visit kalsubai which is Highest point of maharashtra aka ''Mount everest of maharashtra'' however from  last couple weeks whenever i used to plan, most of my colleagues and area friends used to come up with different excuses.

Finally on friday evening i decided to visit kalsubai at night not bothering if our trekking circle was small or big.I called aakash he was ready then i called mandar who was in nashik,he agreed to trek but during early morning time.Usually trekkers from mumbai start thier journey during night time while visiting Kalsubai.
On november 2014 saturday,as planned me and aakash met near Andheri Mcdonald and boarded gitanjali express from dadar at 6am.We got comfortable near doors enjoying the view of outside.Due to cold breeze we were not feeling sleepy anymore, after one hour i called mandar who was in nashik to confirm whether he was up or not! Our call acted as alarm to him and finally he was awake. The train reached igatpuri station around 8:40am,after 5minutes we met mandar then we went to one of the vendor to eat samosa and asked him for the ST Bus depo direction,it was 7-8 minutes from station.
After reaching there we asked conductor about kalsubai bus,he told us ''bus will arrive at 10am'' then we asked him how long it would take us to reach the peak of kalsubai? he told us 3-4hours and pointed towards one of the mountain which was viewable from depo, according to his analysis kalsubai was double the height of that mountain,he left us quite stunned. We came too far to go back and continued with our journey,in a mean time we copped chocos kellogg's,monaco biscuit, mineral water,Maaza(Mango juice)and banana chips.ST bus was almost on time,we hopped in the bus and took the middle seat, there was no rush in the bus.
Remember - Kalsubai might be highest point of maharashtra 5,400 ft long but it does not need any proffesional moutaineering climbing skill,it will just test your stamina.

                                                               On my way to kalsubai

Sorry for all the low resolution pics posted below,i forgot to turn the resolution setting to the highest on my mobile, couple days ago i turned the Image quality to low res for my flipkart student ID purpose which needed 640×480 Res pic to upload.

Till 11:50am St bus reached Bari village(Base village of kalsubai).Temperature was mild not hot nor cold, which was good sign for us.We started our trek.

Base

Narrow trail

One can take villager help at the base for direction. We got ourself a 3sticks out of the woods and walked through narrow trail, trekkers can find out vendors selling lemon juice, food, chips, biscuit every now and then on the way ie 25-30minutes,its not like other moutains in maharashtra.
Now we came to the point where we can view kalsubai clearly from the base, scenery around here was beautiful,it got that australian country side feel to it,mixture of Golden grass,Dry light green grass, brown soil and dark green trees was perfect.

Aakash

We continued with our trek,i was enjoying this trek to the fullest.I mean in winter there is not that much issue of slippery mud and sun heat.Only issue can be is time.We reached the point where we were able to view horizontal side of the moutain matter a fact this point was perfect for base camp. Here we took rest and eat choco kelloggs,Nutella and drank water

While trekking kalsubai one will encounter around 3-4metal ladders, now we were on our first metal ladder.

Metal Ladder

Clear Sky

We were the only trekkers who were ascending,i saw many trekkers descending. On our way we met villager boy who took our pic in group and asked us whether he could guide us,we said ''No'',the trail was too easy to trace and more than that we never took guide ever because we prefer freedom in our trekking and also we take lots of time in our photo session.

Throne kind of Rocks

We came to the point where we were able to see peak of kalsubai and 18-20 windmill which was damn far in the cloud fog to be captured on mobile.Kalsubai peak was like 30-35minute trek from here so we took another rest to eat monaco and drink maaza(Mango juice).
Sunshine was all over the place,we were moving fast then we finally reached the final metal ladder which was close to 90 degree vertical,we took our time and climbed that ladder

Last Metal Ladder

At 3:30pm we reached the peak.It was one of the best feeling after reaching the top,i never thought, the day would come that i would be standing on the highest point of maharashtra.
At the peak there was kalsubai temple and old man near it selling sweets,Aggressive monkey flashing thier teeth, even Bhandardara lake was viewable from the top and 360degree view of the sahyadri. We got busy in our photo session as it was already getting late.

                                                         View from Peak of Kalsubai

It was 4pm so we decided to descend without wasting time,on our way we eat bhaji from villager boy who was cooking it fresh,i mostly avoid oily food on the trek but at the end i was hungry. After eating we headed down like we were adivasi, moving fast.grabbing rocks and jumping.Everytime i used to jump,my foot used to vibrate which i blame it on my old sneakers.
In between we took break to finish rest of the drinks, chips and biscuit then continued with our adivasi style descend.According to information i got,the last bus heading towards kasara station was at 6pm.We descended so fast that we reached the bari village road by 5:20pm.
Mandar told us to come to his rented house in nashik so we decided to go nashik instead of mumbai as we were tired.ST bus was on time however this time it was rushed inside,we headed down near nashik highway and got in to sharing van then rickshaw which took us to mandar house.
At night we spended some time on terrace then eat Dal,Chicken masala, paneer masala with rice and Roti.Next morning we got ready by 12pm and mandar dropped me and aakash on his friend Dio at Mumbai naka which is a taxi stand, taxi man charged us 100rs per person and dropped us at kasara station.
We took local from kasara to ghatkopar then metro to Azad nagar stop.I was home till 6pm on sunday.
